Efficient monitoring of the dams

The challenge - presenting a variety of data

Axpo is Switzerland's largest electricity producer and an international pioneer in energy trading and the marketing of solar and wind power. It is the largest Swiss producer of renewable energies. Together with its partners, it operates more than 100 power plants.

The dams of the hydropower plants are intensively monitored. This includes various measurements of impacts such as lake level, temperature or precipitation and the behavior of the dam such as displacements, deformations or seepage. Some of these measurements are automated. Dam keepers and experienced specialists check and monitor these measurements on an ongoing basis. The previous desktop app for visualizing the data no longer offered the desired functionalities, which is why it was replaced.

The implementation with iDIP - central database and live visualization

Together with the iDIP integrator, the requirements were recorded and a tailor-made solution for data visualization and authorization management was designed. The close cooperation with the project management and the users enabled an optimal implementation, in which Axpo operates the backend itself and makes the data available to iDIP. Axpo configured the following main functions in iDIP largely independently:

The result - simpler monitoring and independent further development

With iDIP, Axpo has achieved a significant improvement in the visualization of measurement data. The measurement data for monitoring the dams can be visualized flexibly, efficiently and in line with requirements. The implementation in the web app offers the advantage that the data is available at all times, regardless of location, operating system and end device. In addition, Axpo can continuously configure new plants and displayed time series independently and thus expand the platform and use it in the long term.
